TipSplit Privacy Policy

Effective date: 5 October 2026

TipSplit is a restaurant tip and bill-splitting calculator published by Protus. It works without an account or advertising.

Information handled by the app

Bill amounts, diner names, split choices, saved defaults, currency, language, appearance settings and whether the large-group unlock is active are processed and stored only on your device. Protus does not receive this information. Android backup and device-to-device transfer are disabled for TipSplit.

Your reporting choices

Analytics and crash reporting are on by default. Open More options → Privacy → Privacy choices to turn either service off independently at any time. Changes are saved on this device immediately and apply independently of your bill, appearance and language settings. Turning Analytics off stops its collection and clears its local analytics data. Turning crash reporting off discards unsent crash reports; reports are queued for upload after an app restart only while that choice is on. Crashlytics may keep diagnostic reports locally while reporting is off; these are discarded on the next launch. Turning a service off does not recall data already sent to Google. You can use the calculator, share bills, purchase optional developer tips and buy the large-group unlock with both services off.

The privacy notice is informational. Its Got it button only dismisses the notice: it does not change either reporting choice and is not recorded as consent.

Crash reporting

TipSplit uses Firebase Crashlytics to identify and fix crashes, application-not-responding errors and other reliability problems. When a problem occurs, Crashlytics may collect a stack trace, relevant app state, device model and operating-system details, app version, event time, and random Firebase or Crashlytics installation identifiers. This diagnostic information is transmitted securely to Google Firebase and is used only to maintain and improve TipSplit. We do not add your bill amounts, diner names, payment details or an account identity to Crashlytics reports. Google describes Crashlytics data handling in its Firebase privacy and security documentation.

Usage analytics

TipSplit uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand general app usage and improve the product. It automatically collects information such as app opens, sessions, screen views, app and device information, approximate location derived from a masked IP address, an app-instance identifier, and Google Play purchase events. TipSplit does not set an Analytics user ID or send bill amounts, diner names or other text you enter as custom Analytics events. Advertising ID collection and ad-personalization signals are disabled. Google explains this collection in its Google Analytics for Firebase data-disclosure documentation.

Sharing

When you choose Share, TipSplit creates a text summary and opens Android's system share interface. The summary is sent only to the app or person you select. The privacy practices of that destination are governed by its own provider.

Purchases through Google Play

Google Play processes TipSplit's one-time purchases. TipSplit handles the product, purchase status and verification information on the device and does not send it to a Protus server. Protus does not receive your full payment-card details. Google's handling of payment information is covered by the Google Privacy Policy. When Analytics is on, automatically collected Google Play purchase events can include these purchases. Those events do not include bill amounts or diner names.

Optional tips support the developer and can be bought again. TipSplit uses the purchase information to complete and consume each tip.

A separate one-time purchase unlocks bill splits for 5 to 99 people. Splits for up to 4 people stay free. TipSplit uses the purchase information to confirm the unlock, saves that unlock on this device, and can restore it from the same Google account through Google Play. This purchase is kept rather than consumed.

The review button opens TipSplit's Google Play listing. Google Play's terms and privacy practices apply there.

Retention and deletion

You can clear the current bill within the app. Uninstalling TipSplit removes its locally stored bill, preferences and on-device unlock flag. The large-group purchase remains with your Google account and can be restored when TipSplit is installed again and Google Play confirms it. Because TipSplit has no user accounts or Protus backend, Protus has no account record or cloud copy to delete.

Children

TipSplit is intended for adults managing restaurant bills and is not directed to children.

Changes

We may update this policy when the app or legal requirements change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
